Reading report one: Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone

Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rolling, in my point of view is a novel of fantasy, because of its magic, fantastic creatures and all the other features of the book.

I chose this title for various reasons. First; because I wanted to read something light I could say, second; it is something that I have seen already in movies, so I was wondering what were the differences between the movie and the book, third; to be honest it does not have a lot of pages, thus I would be able to finish it easily.

The story is located in the U.K, around the 90s. It is about Harry Potter, a young wizard, who did not even know what he was, living as a muggle (how magic individuals call no-magic people). Harry, an introvert boy, who has been bullied all his life by his uncle Vernon, aunt Petunia, and his spoilt cousin Dudley.

As far as I have read so far, they have only appeared, uncle Vernon, aunt Petunia, cousin Dudley, a huge man called Hagrid (gamekeeper and Keeper of Keys and Grounds of Hogwarts), and of course, Harry the main character. Harry has been living with his aunt and uncle, because his parents are dead. They were peacefully living, but mysteriously one day letters started to arrive to Harry (which was almost never), those letters where strange, so Harry’s aunt and uncle decided to escape in a desperate attempt to stop that, until Hagrid arrives to take him to be a student of Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry, so Harry began to know more and more about who he is, additionally, he started to need magical stuff, so Hagrid took him to the Diagon Alley, where they bought them. During the journey, Hagrid explained little things about the magic world to Harry.

P.D. This is from someone who first saw the movie and wants try to find out what differences are among the movie and the book. Until now, I have found 4 things that do not appear in the movie but that makes more interesting the book, locations that are not mentioned in the movie, details that, I personally did not notice when I watched the movie, nevertheless, when you read the book a lot of things start to make sense.
