“Live well, Percy Jackson. Become a true hero. Because if you do not, if you ever come into my clutches again…”
“The Lightning Thief” by Rick Riordan is the story of a half-blood kid who is accused of having stolen a mythological weapon. Throughout the book, the readers can live the adventures and experiences of this new hero.
This book begins with Percy, who is a Greek god’s child but his birth was supposed to be forbidden, and the news of a mystical weapon that was stolen, this having Percy as a principal suspect. Then, everything starts to change since he gets to a camp where there are other kids like him, half-blood is how they call themselves. There, Percy meets his new best friends and odyssey mates; Annabeth, Athena’s daughter, Grover, a satyr keeper, and Luke, Hermes’ son. However, one of them is an impostor. Together, they must face a difficult situation to avoid a war with the human beings in the middle.
In addition, I felt a bit identified with Percy, as he would do anything (as going to Hades Underworld) for the people he loves, I would like to say that I would do the same; he is pretty heroic when needed.
Something good about the book is the story narrated from Percy’s perspective, thus, it makes the reader feel what is happening, the desperation, anger, frustration that our heroes are living, etc.
On the other hand, something that might be expected is that Percy is in deadly danger too often, in spite of that, as he is the protagonist, what happens is a power-up each time, and this becomes monotonous.
All in all, the book has good things as bad things, nevertheless, the bad ones do not shadow the good ones. I would like to recommend this book, even the whole saga of “Percy Jackson”, especially if you are interested in Greek mythology; the story has interesting references, and imagining the powerful gods and goddesses in an actual environment is priceless.
