As Old as Time: A Twisted Tale
“The scariest, most frightening person can turn out to be quite a lovely character … if you give him time.” ― Liz Braswell
As Old as Time: A Twisted Tale, written by Liz Braswell, tells the story of the Beauty and the Beast in a different way. In it, there is magic, monsters, and more, so it is within the fiction genre.
On the other hand, I chose this particular book because Beauty and the Beast is my favorite childhood film. Besides, what caught my attention was the fact that this time, Belle's mother is the powerful Enchantress who curses the prince.
The story is settled in a faraway land, and there is no specific time since the chapters take turns. In other words, in one chapter, we have the story of Maurice and Rosalind, who are Belle's parents, and then, in the next chapter, we have Belle’s. About the characters, Maurice is described as someone who loves the wonders of the new world and what they can do; Rosalind is the most beautiful girl Maurice had ever seen and someone full of magic; Belle is a girl who loves to read and who would like to have adventures as those described in books, and the Beast is someone spoiled, selfish and unkind.
As far as I have read, it has been explained that when Belle's parents were young, there were many magical beings in the place. However, as time passed, humans considered them dangerous, so they were gradually wiped out. Finally, regarding Belle, she is in the enchanted castle after having made the deal with the Beast: to stay in her father's place. More precisely, I am in the part where she is in the kitchen, being the guest.
