Reading project I: PERCY JACKSON AND THE OLYMPIANS “THE LIGHTNING THIEF”

First, I would like to say that I have already watched the movie based on the book. Therefore, that is the main reason why I chose this book, It was interesting when I saw the movie. So, as a warning, this and the following reports might contain some comparisons between both versions. After having pointed this out, we can start.

The lightning thief has one of the most interesting beginnings that I have ever read. The author, Rick Riordan, created a story narrated by "Percy", who is the main character. In the beginning, Percy says that what we are reading is a real story, adding that, if you possibly feel identified with something in it, is recommended to stop reading and keep living the life that you have been lived until now, but if not, you are lucky to think that this is just another fairy tale.

Percy’s story begins by describing Percy, who is a young, hyperactive and dyslexic teenager, who has been kicked out of around six schools over six years. That one day at a course trip to the museum, a mythical creature disguised as his teacher tried to kill him, but somehow, he managed to finish with the monster. Then, coming back to the school, nobody seems to remember anything about that teacher. However, he decided not to pay more attention to that and to focus on meeting his mom again after one year of not seeing her. Once he arrived, Percy and his mom go on a trip where everything went wrong. By night and in the middle of a storm, Grover (Percy’s best friend) arrived to tell them that they needed to run because a minotaur appeared, and it was looking for Percy.

When they thought to have escaped, they were thrown to the air by the creature. Almost unconscious, they managed to run to a near farm, but they were not fast enough; Percy’s mom disappeared in the minotaur’s hand, and then Percy had to fight, killing it, as well came through of a shield that protects a camp. And that is where I am in the book.
