Little Women

“To be loved and chosen by a good man is the best and sweetest thing which can happen to a woman, and I sincerely hope my girls may know this beautiful experience. - thought Marmee” - Louisa May Alcott

Note: Readers, please note that the version to be discussed is Little Women Part 1 since the version of the book I read does not include Part 2. So if part 1 appeals to you, you can continue part 2; that way you would go from reading about the March girls' childhoods, to their love and married lives. After saying this, we can move on to the book review of part 1.

Little Women, which is a book written by Louisa May Alcott, tells the story of the March family, and covers topics such as love, friendship, feminism, and the most important of them all, at least for me, family. When reading the book it can be noticed that, even though the relevant events in the story are about the four sisters, it is Jo who appears in most of them since she is the one who takes the spotlight for the actions she does. For instance, when this girl meets Laurie or when she looks manly for her action in the hairdresser's shop to get money to help her mother.

I certainly think that this is a story worth reading, since it is not easy to find a book that captures the ups and downs of a family. Nevertheless, the most valuable thing for me is that the author gives us a strong character full of life and radical thoughts for the time, that is, Jo.

On the other hand, when I thought about what is negative in the book, I could not think of anything. In other words, no such thing came to my mind because I not only love the narrative and the plot, but I adore the characters and how the author makes them learn life’s lessons and become little women.

For all these reasons, I do believe that Alcott wrote a wonderful book set in a wartime environment. And that she not only wrote lessons for the March girls, but for all the readers, especially young people who identify themselves with feelings like selfishness, impatience and greed.

Finally, I can say that I would recommend Little Women to readers of all ages, since it is fantastic to read it and feel identified with the March girls, Laurie, Marmee, Mr. Laurence or even Mr. Brooke. Likewise, although I do not know another title of the author, I would like to investigate about her, read another of her books and keep an open mind to be willing to explore other genres.
